No, that's not me being figurative. Laura, my wife, had an actual heart attack Monday morning. We got to the ER about 7 am.
So far, it looks to have been a minor one. In fact, for most of the day, the doctors didn't think she had had one. The EKG and X-Rays were clean, and her symptoms had completely vanished by 9 am, with no more treatment than a glass of water and an aspirin. The main doctor said that given her age, sex and state of health, her chances of having had a heart attack were tiny, and that he expected to be looking for another cause for the intense, debilitating chest, arm and facial pain that woke her up this morning.
However, her symptoms were such classic heart attack, that they decided to keep her overnight for observation. About 8 pm, that same doctor walked into her room to announce, with some nervous embarrassment, that he was wrong - the enzyme test showed that she had a heart attack.
If all goes as planned, Laura will undergo heart catheterization Tuesday morning. This will allow the doctors to run a tube into her heart, inject some contrast dye, and then X-Ray for blockages. If they find blockages, and the blockages are small enough, they'll open the blockages with a balloon, and then put in a stent, all through the catheter. If there are no blockages, then we skip the stents and recovery is quicker.
What happens next depends on whether she gets the stents or not - and on whether they discover anything truly hideous, like arteries blocked too much for stents.
There is hope that that things won't be too bad. So far, the heart attack appears have been a minor one, and may not have any appreciable long-term effect on her heart. I'm hoping that holds.
Anyway, any warm thoughts, positive energy, prayers, spells, rituals or muttered invocations to obscure gods or Fate on Laura's behalf are welcome. All deities welcome, although Laura doesn't like seafood, so maybe leave Great Cthulu out of this one. :-)
Leave comments as you wish, just realize that Laura or I may not respond until late tomorrow night.

I'm not surprised that it was misdiagnosed. I've read article after article on how this happens. I'm glad they got it right in the end.
The good news is that everyone I know who's gone through it has had no real complications, even the ones who had bypass surgery. Hell, what they went through was a picnic compared to what *I* went through (as they've all told me).
I'm glad they caught it relatively early and I will hope and pray for the best. A small furry mammal will be sacrificed and partially ingested on her behalf by our Graehling.
So, did she have the heart attack as a result of hearing that Trinoc-Con is no more?

No, Trinoc*Con's demise was not the trigger. :-)

I'm glad it was mild but this is a shocker! I'm hoping for the best, please keep me informed. I will try to call in the afternoon or evening when hopefully all the procedures are done for a bit.
And Cthulhu will be called upon, specifically to scare the stupid out of the doctors and other medical staff!

Going to light a candle now . . .
